Ah, the words that kiss a Grandma's heart....

Me: Hey Emily, how was your first day as a 4th grader?"

Emily: "Awesome!!"

Love that. Love that she loves school..loves to learn.. is excited about going back to school...I used to love the first day of school, too. New pencils...new Crayons...new notebooks..NEW outfits!

Do you remember making book covers for your books out of paper grocery bags? They held up pretty good back then..and we didn't have back packs..and why was that? I remember hauling around heavy books all day...

...bygones

I remember thinking about what I was going to wear..planning and worrying if it was going to be PerFeCt!

So, speaking of perfect...guess what I got a the thrift shop (Deseret Industries) this week-end?

Guess..

Really..

OK, OK I'll tell ya..

A KATE SPADE bag!

Uh-huh..oh yeah..I did, yes..I did...

Brand new..handles still in plastic...

..feet still shiny and new..

..crumpled paper inside for cryin' out loud (wonder where that expression came from??)

..and yes, inside the polka dots are red and white against the black :-) I love polka dots!

And it's cute. And it's new. And it's pink and black.. And it's mine. And it's.....................

$3.00 !!

OK, so...um..what? Wait...

Seriously. Really? $3.00...not $300.00?

Well..it may not be a real Kate Spade...kinda like when you go to the dollar store and see a huge ginormous bottle of Spic-n-Span ..only to look closer and what it really says is Spic-n-Spawn..

But I still can't tell a good cubic zirconia from a bad diamond...or a pair of Jimmy Choo's from a pair of silly shoes..

OK, I made that last one up..but you know what I mean.

It is, to the best of my knowledge, a Kate Spade.

And I am like the mother-ship of good thrift store finds...

cool..looking through the handles!

And I am, to the best of my knowledge, the luckiest girl on my block.

Too bad it's not my first day at school...

The brown paper bag book covers were the best cause you could doodle all over them in class when you were bored! My niece is going into fourth grade and her mother told us when we went over to visit on Saturday not to mention the start of school or her daughter would cry! Sad.

There you go being all in style and everything. Ya know many DI you can't tell until you start dismantling them anyway!!! It is cute and black and pink and it has you written all over it!!! First day of school, maybe not but, it is your special day!!!

Love, love, love that bag! Great job! And it may not be a REAL Kate Spade...but at least it doesn't say Kate Spayed or something goofy like that! LOL! Or maybe it IS a real one and they just didn't know what they had! Woot!
Hope Emily enjoys her school year! Ah....memories of school supplies! I STILL love new school supplies! I'm a dork.
Take care!

Your grandaughter looks adorable.
Yes, I remember using brown paper bags to cover my books. We left our books in our lockers at school.
Love the purse. I bought a knock off years ago and you couldn't tell the difference. I love purses. It's on of my downfalls. I recently got two Louis Vuitton's and I am going to stick with him for a long time.

As my girls say when we hit shopping gold: SCORE!

I love everything about it: Kate Spade, pink polka dots, red polka dots. Most especially I love that it's yours.

Our two are fifth graders now. Ah, beginnings! We should all have a Kate Spade to start anew...
