'Ello luvs! ....

{trying to sound all English..but it looks like I misspelled Elmo...in brand-name diapers..}

OK, so today my supervisor comes in and while taking, he told us a story about how when he was a kid, a load of dry-wall fell on him and the doctor told him he'd probably not walk on one leg again......

"Huh" says me..."didja walk on one leg before the accident???"

Now you all know me enough to know I can't let an opening like that go by and not step in...

Same boss, different day. We were in the conference room, big meeting with several participants on the phone...he was saying our DNA tests were easier because they were a "mouthwash instead of a swab..because with waiting and timing on the swab..it's a real pain in the butt.."

Uh huh...yeah..you know it...I said.. out loud..

"Well, jeeze, you weren't doing it right...you use the swab on the other end.."

Yeah..and to think they hired me for my looks...

Anyway, it got me to thinking about walking...I really like walking. When I have some where to walk to..not so much from...

A reason for the trip.

I like to have a purpose..a goal..somewhere to be..

Like if I was walking to get..um.....home from somewhere..

Then I'd feel like I could walk a lot. But start me out from home?

Even walking the pups, although thoroughly enjoyable..I could still turn around and go back inside and say.....like.."Oh, not today pups. You'll just have to hold it."

I could just go back inside. Not that I would. But I could..and it'd be easy....just go back in..

But drive me somewhere, I'd have to walk home..see my point?

Now, there'd have to be some stipulations..

...do not drop me off more than a couple of miles from home...not too far..not after dark..

..or in the cold.

..or in the rain.

..or if it's too hot.

..or if there's mosquitoes.

..or mean dogs.

..or cats.

..or I have a blister.

..but I could walk a lot, really.

So, bet you can tell how I feel about treadmills..yep..not so much. I mean, what's the point? At least with the new gym..there's a plan..a goal..

"do fifty reps and move on to a new set.."

..kinda makes you have a feeling of....closure.

Finished one thing..now moving on to the other. Not just walking, getting nowhere..staring off in space..and tripping.

Not that I've done that...yet.

So, have a good walk home from somewhere. You'll feel so good when you get there :-)

Short Post and Hot Dog Tummy..

Blek..I've eaten a hot dog for dinner. And I usually like hot dogs. And they usually like me. But for some reason..not so much today.

Maybe it's because I have been eating far more veggies and fruits and less meats, it was a little too rich.

Whatever the reason...blek. :-(

Mr. B spent the week-end putting together a home gym. The whole week-end. A home gym

In our home.

In 4,000 little pieces.

In our home.

With LOTS of supervisors..
Guess he did good..this was all that was left..

But, now it's up and we're both pleased. We can both work out without having to go to the gym...because we have a gym.....in our home.

He'll work to regain strength in his arm & shoulder and I'll work out for stamina and to help with my weight loss.

And, I'll work out so I can occasionally have Mexican food and.....toast! Did I ever tell you how much I loooove toast?

Well, I do.

And now, when I go to the gym..in our home..it will be a shorter walk to have...toast!

Happy happy me.

Tired, sore Mr. B

I wonder what I'll dream about tonight with my "hot-dog-tummy"??

I wonder how may points in Tums? Or, are Tums considered for medicinal purposes?

Hmmm..things that may you go "Hmmmm"..

Oh the questions I have...

Laundry...in the "good old days"...

WASHING CLOTHES

Build fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water. Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert. Shave one hole cake of lie soap in boilin' water.

Sort things, make 3 piles:

1 pile white,
1 pile colored,
1 pile work britches and rags

To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with boiling water.

Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard, and boil, then rub colored don't boil just wrench and starch.

Take things out of kettle with broom stick handle, then wrench, and starch.

Hang old rags on fence.

Spread tea towels on grass.

Pore wrench water in flower bed. Scrub porch with hot soapy water. Turn tubs upside down.

Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs. Brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings.

{For you non-southerners - wrench means rinse.}

Paste this over your washer and dryer. Next time when you think you have it really hard..read it.

Now be thankful.

Have a restful Sunday .

Well, well, well...

Another week has been and gone, and another week-end looms ahead. (no, this is not a poem..although it could be..)

Can I get a Hallelujah??

yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about!

A brief update on Mr. B

He's fine.

Feisty and sassy.

Fiesty and sassy and a little pig-headed..(not to insult the pig-population, of course)

The arm, ribs and clavicle (love saying that instead of collarbone - I feel all totally smart..) are healing nicely and he's regaining strength daily.

It's surprising how fast muscles atrophy when not used..kinda like my brain at the end of the week.

His brother and Mother gave him the gift of a home gym...

.... so we'll both be enjoying better health and stronger bodies...

This is not me...

This is not me.

This is not me.

This may very well be me.

(our own...not other people's stronger bodies...just to be clear..)

Brother Larry is fixen to start a cross-country train ride.. He's always wanted to travel in a sleeper car like in the old movies..

He's pretty much finished up on the chemo and radiation that they can give..it's up to God (and your continued prayers) to see him the rest of the way home.

I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row to have the BRCA1 and BRCA2 DNA testing done... one of my sisters and one niece have had bouts of lumps that they've discovered, so me, as a sibling and having had full-blown breast cancer, can be tested to see if I have the gene that may indicate the mutation being hereditary versus random.

In normal cells, BRCA1 and BRCA2 help ensure the stability of the cell’s genetic material (DNA) and help prevent uncontrolled cell growth. Mutation of these genes has been linked to the development of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.

The names BRCA1 and BRCA2 stand for breast cancer susceptibility gene 1 and breast cancer susceptibility gene 2, respectively.

Called my insurance, and they said it's covered, praying it is.

The results, if not found to be hereditary, do not mean our girls are out of the woods for any type of cancer, including breast cancer, but would give them a breather from thinking when the 'other shoe' will fall and which one of them it may be.

If it is found, the regimen of prevention, and treatment can be altered and more aggressive.

Good info to have, huh?

Still, it will give me huge flutter-bys in my tummy waiting for results with the possibility of it truly being hereditary..

And, what is it with getting "ducks in a row"? Why would you want them to get in a row?

They'll never get in a row...they're ducks.

Ducks at the YMCA...it's fun to stay at the YMCA-A

Have an enjoyable Saturday, OK?

{insert me whisteling..fwoofwoowfwoo.}

Lalallalaalalaa...{now I'm looking at my watch..)

Hmm hmmm hmmmm...

..dancing around the front yard...la la la..

...getting older by the minute...
Heloooo??

OK, so...

It's it GreAt or what? I love what she is doing and I have totally fell in love with this art form..

I don't know if it's just being raised in Arizona (my sisters and brother are still there) or just the sassy quotes and the StrOnG women she gives us..

Oh, and that she readily admits she can't sew..and yet she does...nothing will stop her from doing what she likes..

... and all that coffee stained fabric? Cool, huh?

Anyway, her new schedule of classes are up and for anyone "international" (see me green with jealousy?) she has on-line classes.

Oh, and even if you don't want to do the art (Wha???)..look at the adorable house she's got for her studio..

{again.......me. green. jealous. }

If you go take classes, you can get "such a deal" and a free night in a hotel! And, if you go, let me know..you can visit my daughter April (the one who wrote to you all in my blog when Mr. B was in THE ACCIDENT..

...it sounds all echo-ey in my head like....THE ACCIDENT..like a TV announcer...totally DEEP deep deep ) She'd love to meet you..{and yet again.......me. green. jealous.}

So, um..I did sort of "lift" some images...sorry..from her site cause you know I can't write more than a line or two without a photo..whether it relates to the post.....

...or not.

Sleep tight and remember what my Mother used to say....

"a donut without a hole is a danish"

I'm thinking I have a (another??) new obsession....

Fabric.

Yep. Cloth.

And I don't sew a lick..(got a new sewing machine and couldn't use it for 2 years...lost the cord & foot pedal..didn't even realize it..huh..)

..besides, what does that mean anyway.."sew a lick"? Or do anything in a "lick"..except eat ice cream and /or Tootsie Roll Pops...

{OK - it's now 40 minutes later and after an exhausted Google search..}

...I got nuthin'..

But I did find out where the word pajamas comes from :-)

Pajamas
Of Persian decent, it's a combination of the words pa (leg) and jamah (garment).

I. did. not. know. that...

So anyway, I am getting to like this whole fabric collage thingy..because you don't have to be a good sew-er to do it . As a matter of fact, rough edges, and different stitches add to the charm..

So, if I can do something and not be precise - I like it.

Which is probably why I wasn't good with money..I thought it was OK to guess balances, due dates, check numbers and payments..

Not so much ..

I was walking through, of all places, a fabric store and they had TONZZZ of....fabric!

Tall fabric, fat fabric, smooth fabric, shiny fabric, soft fabric, bumplie fabric..you name it.

They even had some ugly fabric but that's another story.

But, really, with all the choices of beautiful fabric, why would anyone CHOOSE to buy ugly fabric?

Beats me. {wonder where that expression came from??}

Back to the fabric store. I felt like a little kid at Toy-R-Us ...

There was so much to take in. To smell. To touch. And I wanted all of it.

Well, not so much the ugly stuff.

Now that I think of it, maybe a little of the ugly stuff would look kinda cool in a collage...

Anyway, did you know you can buy teensy amounts of fabric? Like 1/4 yard? Yeah..so I got a while bunch of teensy luscious fabrics..

Wanna see?

This is what I am calling my..."manly- man-type cloth" collection..

Such great textures and neutral colors..and f course the do-dads ( another mysterious expression..) have to have a less-blingy quality..

But then there's the "girly-girl" collection...

Pretty and pinky and soft and feminine and ..you know...girly!

Now that I have some fabric and manly-do-dads, I need to be on the look out for ..bright, shiny objects.

Which I am drawn to ..along with rusty objects..and old objects..

I started looking at belts from the thrift store ($1.00 each) and found some already..

So, now I'm looking for those 1-earring-broken bracelets-old chains-fabric flowers..you know...

Junque!
What have you gotten excited about lately?...

... that you can tell us about...?

Let us know. And if you want to see an amazing woman and what she has done with bits and bobs and scraps and junk, go to www.lipstickranch.com and see what I'm so excited about..

As I rapidly approach my..um..the begining of the second half...

..uh....of my life ( I am planning on living to 120.. - just to be clear..) I look for reasons to be happy about this whole "aging" process..

Here are a few that have been sent previously in emails circulating around the inter-web.

Reason to be happy about being old (er)..

{photos do not correlate with the text - I just love old people pictures...I just didn't think I'd be in them..so soon..}

Kidnappers are not very interested in you.

People call at 9 p.m. and ask, "Did I wake you?"

There's nothing left to learn the hard way.

Things you buy now won't wear out.

You can eat dinner at 4:00

You can't remember the last time you laid on the floor to watch television.

You consider coffee one of the most important things in life.

You got cable for the weather channel.

You have a party and the neighbors don't even realize it.

You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room.

You have an age advantage whenever you need it.

You are not expected to keep up with technology or understand it.

You get travel and entertainment (and restaurant) discounts.

Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.

These are not my hands, and they're not your hands, but I think they are the most beautiful hands a person could have..

The babies held, the tears wiped away, the clothes ironed, the meals cooked, the love dispensed in those hands...

Beautiful.

I hope your days are filled with respect for old(er) people..one day, with a little luck and love, we'll all be there.

Wanna see what I've been up to ??

I always wanted a dollhouse. My dad was a carpenter and was asked by one of his wealthy customers to make a dollhouse for their daughter. I...
