It's been a day of discoveries...

I have discovered ...

"World Peace"
.. oh no, you did not just say that....

Oh, yeah...I mean....
"Whirled Peas"

Yeppers, I found a recipe that sounded sort of like hummus..only instead of chick-peas, you use...green peas.

Which brings me to my second discovery today....

there's a major difference in "blender" and "food processor"..I have the former..

I needed the latter.

Uh-huh..the recipe calls for hard cooked eggs, roasted walnuts, sauteed onions and the expected..peas.

Oh, and a little lemon juice and a splash of Worcestershire sauce..

You're to put all the stuff in ..and whip it in the food processor. Ever try putting that much into a blender?

You got it..it just sat there. So I had to persuade it along with a spatula..turn it on. Let it spin..turn it off..repeat like 57 times.

Pretty soon I had the green goo all over the counters, the sink, me, and the floor and I think a bit hit Braxton on the head..

Looked like a baby exploded in my kitchen. Holy crap. Have you ever whirled peas??

Note to self: get a food processor and leave the blender to actually...blend....like margaritas or pina coladas...
{It actually tastes quite good with crackers..}

Another discovery. Pampered Chef expensive muffin pans..break.

Least now I can make a half dozen at a time..Geesh.

My favorite discovery? Roasted cauliflower drizzled with a teensy amount of olive oil and a package of dry Ranch Dressing mix sprinkled over all then cooked in the oven until browned.

I ate an entire bag of cauliflower. At 20 calories per serving (5 servings in the bag) and zero calories in the dry Ranch mix, so a total of 100 calories, it was quite a treat.

( I can do math...I just choose not to..)

I discovered my favorite decoration in the kitchen - this shelf that Mr. B made - not only does it house my small (but growing) collection of aprons...

...it's decorated with 3 cowgirls and one cowboy - just like us... 3 Sullivan Sisters {Sister Kathleen Mary, Sister Geraldine Margaret and Sister Colleen Marie - our "ode" to our sentence..uh...time in Catholic school..} and our brother, the Kindergarten Cowboy..

Did you make any discoveries this week-end? What were they?

I'm off to discover my sweet dreams. Hope your dreams are sweet too :-)

Oh, here's the recipe.......... thanks to another great discovery...a darling blog..

http://www.fourgreenacres.com

"our beloved pea spread. The idea came from an old Jewish cookbook. It's supposed to taste like chopped chicken liver, but don't let that dissuade you. It doesn't. It tastes like the whole green, growing world on a cracker.
We do it this way:
Hard-boil three eggs.
Toast three-quarters cup of walnuts.
Dice and saute one largish onion in olive oil.
Stir one-and-a-half cups of frozen peas into the sauteed onions. Thaw them out but don't over-cook them.
Put everything in a food processor. Whirl. Add salt to taste and lots of pepper. Dash in Worcestershire sauce. Squeeze a lemon over it but not for long. Whirl again.
Eat on toast or carrots or right off the spoon. We have been known to eat it off our fingers, but we wouldn't do that if you were coming to dinner, promise."

Thanks for the great recipe and for your site. I loved reading about Tuesday and your girls and the book you recommended..

Yummy... I think I would love the whirled green peas! The cauliflower looks great too. I'm trying to talk myself into going to WW tonight while they still have free registration. If I do, you'll have to share more yummy recipes with me!

how on earth did your PC muffin pan break like that? you should check and see if you can get a new one if yours is still under warranty. i forget how many years that one is guaranteed. love that you said you can make a half dozen at a time now, LOL.

I love your blog. A mutual friend blogger, Sweet Repose, knew I would love to read your day to day. It sounds like you discover things in the kitchen like I discover things in the kitchen. It won't taste as good if I don't decorate all kitchen surfaces with whatever I am making. Thanks for the recipe.

While trying to write a draft for my next post, I discovered that blogging is really hard work, but of the satisfying variety.

No, thanks, on the 'pea dip'. The cauliflower sounds good...without the cauliflower. Have I mentioned I'm not a big veggie eater? Unless potato chips count as a veggie! And, olives are my 'fruit' for the day. I'm covered nutritionally, eh?

Wow, you actually made "whirled peas" sound good. Blah! :) Hubby broke a piece of Polish Pottery and I had a fit! Mine did not break into a usable 2 pieces... all over the floor. I guess he will just have to buy me 3 more pieces to make up for his indiscretion! ha!

You always are on an expedition of one sort or another. Let's see...nope, can't think of a thing that I discovered this weeked other than that I'm getting lazier by the day. That can't be a good thing.

I like your apron collection. ;D

Well now I'm hungry. I bought some different kind of crackers in California and ate them with that cheese I like so well but can't think of the name of now...anyway, these crackers would be so good with that. Mmmmm......

Colleen!

You made my day! Not only did you try our pea spread -- and make a grand to-do of it -- you made me laugh. As you always do. Visiting your blog is guaranteed to make me happy. I love hearing about your weigh-ins. AND I love the Big Boss story, LOVE it!

Thanks for sending your friends over to Four Green Acres. We'll be so happy to meet them. And here's hoping they'll like meeting the two newest members of our family...Maple and Sugar!

I have not visited in awhile, I keep getting behinder and behinder. You know how it is. I came over here to thank you for visiting and I get a laugh. Too funny. Now the whirled peas. Probably not try it. Never like peas. My mother tells me I even gagged on baby food peas. But.....the cauliflower on the other hand sounds yummy. So take it that you roast the cauliflower ahead of time, then add the stuff and put back in oven again? Can you give temp and length of time on that? I'm not much of a cook, I need more specifics. I love your aprons too. I wonder if I wear aprons like that, I would be more of a cook?

Hi there! Yes, I've had several (too many to count and of course I don't know where my receipt is so I can send it in for a replacement) Pampered Chef stoneware pieces break. :( But the main reason I had to comment is because I think I see soap bubbles in there? Did you know that you're not supposed to use soap on unglazed stoneware, because the soap actually sinks into the stone and then the next time your food can taste like soap?! Just thought I'd share that little tidbit... sorry about your pan.

Wanna see what I've been up to ??
