..sometimes, I'm sooooo my Mother..

Mother with her big sister, my Aunt Alice..

Mother at about 4 years old - 1919

I remember growing up, my Mother would fall asleep watching TV, snore up a storm, then when it was time to go to bed, be wide awake and say she just couldn't sleep..then go to bed and snore all.night.long..

And now I find myself falling asleep before the 9 o'clock news, then when it's time to go to bed, remembering I need to set the coffee for morning..or run the dishes..or something..

Then I'm wide awake - the TV comes back on and the computer is revved up again.

And I notice I'm like totally compulsive about some things..

...can't go to bed when I have dishes in the sink.
...hate  HATE spotty mirrors {I have been known to clean the mirrors in public bathrooms..}

but completely lax about other things...

...floors..I am soo bad about mopping and sweeping and vacuuming..
...and while I love to look out clean windows, I seem to forget we still don't have "self-cleaning" ones..

I'm getting better about watching the expiration dates on jams and jellies once daughter April discovered I had a jar of jam older than my granddaughter...and had moved it cross country 2 times...yes, embarrassing for sure.

And I'm learning how to live with my ADD..put things into their places as soon as I have them in my hand..

keeping "like" things together..

Remembering that if I don't have the time to do it right and now...

when will I have the time?

Oh, yeah, right when I get ready for bed...

What quirks do you have..maybe we're not so different, huh?

Have a great Saturday..

Very funny, Colleen! I've got a lot of my mother's quirks, too--I think we all do! I completely understand yours...sound VERY familiar to me!

Hope your weekend is wonderful!

Funny. My mom falls asleep in front of the TV, wakes up to go to bed & takes a Melatonin to help her sleep! Oh my...

Great post...had me giggling again...cleaning public toilet mirrors...hee hee.
Me too, I often find myself doing things my mum did.
When I put towels and sheets in the cupboard all the folds must face towards the front and the edges to the back. She told me she had to do this when she was trained as a nurse.

...........oh yes, I want the 'self-cleaning windows' they would make life and cleaning so much easier!!!

Like you, I have to have the kitchen perfect before going to bed - and yes, the coffee set for the morning. Mirrors clean at home but doubt I'll ever clean public ones.....I'm not quite that diligent!

Colleen I see you haven't lost your sense of humor since I've been gone, thank goodness! You must stop by to see my photos from the African safari - I have some great shots of the fabulous wildlife and places we stayed. Being with three Brit friends meant hilarious moments and we were told we were "memorable"!! This was the most awesome trip of my entire life and I hope to return some day.....meanwhile I have to win the lottery, ha!

Have a marvelous weekend and keep us laughing, you do it so well.

My Gosh Colleen, I could have written this one myself! I fall asleep around 9, wake up and say I'm going to bed. Then I let the dogs out for one last time, then by the time they're ready to come in I'm awake and have my second wind. To bed? Usually around 3 a.m.

Sometimes, I think all us ladies start to become our mothers. I just know I'm going to be mine in a little while... :s

Colleen you've been spying on me.LOL You have me laughing everytime I visit. I fear we are so alike we could be twins. I put a laundry shoot in this house. I have been waiting 20 years for the maid to bring my clothes up to me. Where is that woman... I thought laundry shoots came with maid service, right. And our 29 foot glass window wall in the living room, well where are the windshield wipers... gets frustrating just waiting for things to happen. Have a great weekend. PS I am getting ready to glaze the beads. Might be done by Tuesday.

I have to have the coffee machine ready and cereal poured before I go to bed. I guess I belive I'm more rational at night and this will save time if I sleep in, when I wake up. I come from a family were it's more important to get out and have a good day then worry about the floors... so I understand. I live by myself so my "roomates" or lack there of, don't mind... There's not enough room here to post all my quirks, but one thing I found myself nodding along with was being picky about some things and not so picky about others. That's definitely a "me too." I always tell John to allow Nan to sleep when she drifts off during a program saying, "It's the best sleep she's going to have all night." Don't you find that so?

I have gotten to be okay with dishes in the sink, especially with my daughter & SIL living here now. She can do her own dishes!
Yep, put everything in it's place or I will never find it again. Of course we have to remember what that place is :)

Great post Colleen! I too hate to have dishes in the sink overnight - but am lax about my floors AND my non self-cleaning windows. Funny how some things become obsessive with us and others just don't seem to register.

Wishing you a dish-free weekend!

Sue:)

There have been more times than not that I'm in the bathroom and glance in the mirror and see my mother looking back at me. It's just crazy. And the best thing???? My daughter will be doing that same thing someday. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I have definitely become my mother..but thank goodness not such a bad thing for me...I have noticed it in even the little things..the way I chew my food..my expressions, my thoughts...

Ha! I dont' have my mother's quirks (yet) but I definitely have her voice. Sometimes I just cut myself off mid-sentence when I hear that voice coming out of my mouth. It's really weird. It's also the only thing that convinces me I'm her child :)

My quirks???????? Way to many to mention. Just ask the husband. -grin-

One main one is, I have to be surrounded by everything-in-its-place. Which could be called neatness I guess. Like, I don't care about dust on the tables but the books or magazines MUST be stacked neatly! ,-)

And I NEED to know all [family], even] plans in advance. I need to feel in control. Which I once read was the result of growing up with an alcoholic father. Which meant I was never sure of ... how life at home, would evolve next. So I have this neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to keep my life pretty much in order.

Thankfully, my family doesn't let it bother them much. lol.
