George Elliot's Old Grandmother Rode A Pig Home Yesterday...

...that's how I remembered to spell geography..

I think it would have been easier to just remember g-e-o-g-r-a-p-h-y...but I remembered the rhyme..or thingy - it really doesn't rhyme..or make any sense at all.

Kinda like homes..remember that one? It's for the Great Lakes ..Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior.

Funny what we remember.

Funny that I can remember that and can't remember that my granddaughter, Emily is not in 3rd. grade, but 2nd.

Which brings me to tonight's post.

Emily had a geography project that asked that a journal be sent to 'various people' and these 'various people' write something about where they lived, and send the journal on to other 'various people' until the deadline, when the book was to be returned to the school and presented to the class.

Emily's Mother, my daughter, April, is in International Banking..International Finances..
I know..must have been a recessive gene...

Anyway, April pulled some international strings and got lots of great input for Emily's geography project. Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Mexico, China...

Then they sent it to me...the most Un-international 'various people' I know. Me. In Utah.

OkeyDokey. What can I contribute...

The book came in sort of....well, let's just say plain would be a compliment.
AhHa moment! If anyone can make it fancy, it's Martha Stewart!! !!!!!!

Oh wait...... I don't know Martha Stewart.

Guess it's up to me...yeah, the un-international one..

So this is what I started with...

...added some of this...

.

it started looking like this....

..added some rub-ons...

.

..found this little booklet to add to the front cover...

..it actually opens and has little teensy pages!

..made a "Table of Contents"...sort of...

.

...added some cute "stuff"....

...then all I had to do was to print and paste info on Utah...Oh, and I added a large envelope on to the inside back cover for postcards she has received...

The back cover.....

Yeah, about the 3rd. grade thing...I finished the book, wrapped it in tissue and placed it in the envelope provided, sealed it up and as I was walking out to go to the post office, April called (I had sent her the photos so she' be "OK" with them..) and said,

"It's beautiful - uh.....have you mailed it yet??"

Me triumphantly "I'm on my way to the post office as we speak!"

"You do know she's in the 2nd. You wrote to "Emily & her 3rd. grade class..."

Damn....but I spelled 'geography' correctly...

Have a great Wednesday (remember Wed- Nes-Day ??)

I hope Emily (and all your other grands) never, ever, ever forget how fortunate they are to have a grammie like you! Years from now, Emily probably won't remember whether she was in 2nd or 3rd grade at the time. What she will remember is that her one-of-a-kind grammie thought she was so special that she took the time to make this geography project something so wonderful and unforgettable! You are a jewel!

Blessings!

Hi Mom,
Don't worry about the 3rd grade thing- I told Emily that she is so big and so smart that you thought she was in 3rd grade already so she was very pleased about it. :>))
I LOVE your decorations and you did a FANTASTIC job. Thanks so much for doing all that work to make her project so special. I told her that you decorated the book and tried to show her the pictures but she doesn't want to see them...she said she wants to be surprised when it comes to school so she wants to wait until then..too funny. I am way to impatient (like someone else I know who shall remain nameless but is married to Mr. B)so she must have got her patience gene from her dad's side!!
Once they go over the book with the class they will send it home to us. I would love to keep her geography journal going so when I get it back, I would be happy to send it out to anyone that would like to participate. Just e-mail me your name and address to colykes@comcast.net. I thought I could make a list of people to send it to so when someone gets it, they would complete it then send it on to the next name on the list. Once no one else is on the list, they could send it back to us. I think it would be a lot of fun and a great way to learn about the world and about each other. What do you think?
Love,
April

Wonderful stuff! You can bet she will be the envy of 2nd grade/3rd grade with that blinged book!
I use those (mnemonics)don't ask me to pronounce it though, memory triggers in my English classes.

1 collar 2 socks = neCeSSary
or "There's a BUS IN BUSINness"

Ah sufferin' heart! I'll be at it all night now thinking of them all and trying to pronounce Mnemonics or is it spelt...Nmemonics...or...
Is it too late to send her a postcard?
