My name is Colleen and I'm a exclamation point-aholic..

.......I don't know what it is about exclamation points. but I WAY over-use them! I really do! Really!!

I don't know when this addiction started, but I seem to have had it since about Junior High! Every time I wrote anything to my BFF Rosie, I was exclaiming!

I think I have found a self-help book that may help me!!

The other day, I went into my FTS (favorite thrift store...I don't know why abbreviations are so cool, but I am...hip, with-it, uber-cool, phatt...hey, wait, maybe not phatt..oh yeah...fly..so I use them every chance I can!!...damn - there I go again...)

Anyway, I found this book.

It has this totally 40's workplace photo of a "boss" and his pert-pretty secretary...

Cool collar, huh??

It has the best pages - all about how to communicate the "business way" - it has a gazillion chapters devoted to the ...comma.

Yep. The comma. Look...

...and only a half-of-a-chapter for exclamation points?!! What??!!!!

This book is just sooo helpful...how on earth would I have ever folded a letter without it??!!!

And, it has great pro-nun-cia-tion pages...

...although I have never (yet) had the opportunity to use the word "ignoramus" in a business setting..

And apparently, the only clergy around in the 40's were either Catholic or Jewish..and not so many Jewish....

I don't know about you, but this book is not only vintage, but very useful...without it I wouldn't be able to call the Pope an ignoramus in my letter, with the proper use of commas, and fold the letter in the way I should...

Talk about your "Higher Education"!!!!

-me

PS - don't worry about the Pope comment - I've heard he has quite a sense of humor...

I use exclamation marks alot too!!!
I think it's just because I'm such an enthusiastic person and feel the need to proclaim my enthusiasm! LOL!!!!
The book is a great find. I love looking through those old things. Actually, I remember in high school getting a lesson in how to fold a letter. I still use that knowledge to this day. At least I learned something!

I find exclamation points and UPPER CASE quite effective when it comes to typing. For instance, when IMing with my son, he knows that UPPER CASE means the same thing as using his middle name when he's with me in person. Upper case with an exclamation point . . . first, middle AND last name!

As for using ignoramous in a business setting since you've read my most recent post, I think you'll understand when I tell you I can think of an instance where it could be very helpful right now.

P.S. Tell your sister to put on her cowboy boots - or books as the case may be (lol) and stomp away and pray! Between the stomping and the praying, we have a contract on our house!

Blessings!

We are long lost "exclamation mark" buddies!! The thing I misuse more is "quotation" marks. In fact my blog once turned up on a miscellaneous blog for the over use of ""you know whats"!!

It doesn't matter to me.......I like expressive people.....it's like talking with your hands.

Hysterical!!! I would love a book like this. It does your thinking for you!

I learned in school that you want to use exclamations sparingly—and for me, that's not easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a grand and glorious day!
