What's your number??

Do you remember "Paint by Numbers" ? I do.

I always tried but never got very good at it.

Back then, I thought they were the dumbest things around.

And I held onto that thought until recently..when I discovered this one used as a back-board for a picture in a frame that I wanted..I didn't want the picture that was showing..just the frame.

And I got this surprise. And I looked at this dog and fell in love..how could anyone not want that?

..and when I started loving anything vintage..I realized how wonderful the old PBN pictures really were. Especially the dogs..and horses..but I love the dogs..

In the fun of "junking" and finding great "stuff"..I want to start collecting these. I imagine I could become lucky again and one day while thirfting, I may find another one.

I even looked on eBay, thinking no one would want {or even have} any of these..

w.r.o.n.g...they do..and they cost..well..more than I want to pay..

So, maybe, just maybe I'll buy a kit, sit down some evening with the little pots of paint and paint away..not worrying about composition, or color choice or subject matter...

...and just have some mindless-easy-fun painting by numbers :-)

How about you? Did you ever do any PBNs?

Those dog pbns are glorious. I've never seen any. The ones I've seen seem to have to do with autumn leaves and covered bridges. I even finished one my mom had started. I loved the smell of those oil paints.

I loved paint by numbers because I was not given any artsy genes at all so when I was able to paint something, I thought I could paint. Now I know it was just life throwing me another curve. :)

I have a couple vintage PBN's and they have gotten very pricey on Ebay. Especially the flamingos. It was quite a thrill though, when I found one that matched a lighted scene I had from Cypress Gardens in Florida (I collect pre-Disney, Florida souvenirs). Who'd have thought they'd become so collectible?

I loved PBN! I used to do them all the time when I was a kid. I was in Hobby Lobby the other day, and they had a whole aisle of them, I too loved the animals. As a horse nut, those are the ones I always picked. Ahhh I can smell the paint just thinking about it!

A few...my grandmother has a few unfinished ones in the attic. Perhaps I should sell them on Ebay.

It is so funny that you are talking about this. I was just thinking about them the other day.
I did it when I was young and thought they were dumb but I think I would like to do one now. I am going to get me one!

I have found several PBN vintage pics in this area at yard sales - used to hate them but now find something rather appealing about them.

I agree that the dog ones are really great! I also agree that the prices on Ebay can be steep!

Its amazing what come around again. I would never have thought they would be collectors items. I do remember the whole family being involved with them when they were in vogue. I can't remember what happened to them. Do you ever check out the "Freecycle"site for thrifting or thirfting as you said hehehe.
