Welcome to the 21st century, Sister GeraldineMargaret..

Yep, my sister is on Facebook.

Facebook!

That may not seen so monumental or earth shattering or even a 'biggie'..

But you don't know Gerri..

It's not that she's incapable, or she can't learn these things..she's incredibly smart..

She's just, well, to say stubborn is like saying Arizona's hot in the summer..yeah..like that.

She just doesn't give a fig about technology. Hates it. Doesn't have time for it. Uses it only when there's no other logical alternative..

And I don't really know how she feels about figs..maybe in cookies.."Fig Newtons - it's not a cooookie..it's a cake" (said in an English accent, please)

It may be the whole "progress" thing..she moved from her little horse property in Gilbert Arizona..

{not that she had little horses..just not BIG land} because they were putting in sidewalks..

"Sidewalks?! What's next....PAVED STREETS??!!"

She stood at the counter and talked on her cordless phone for years..

...c.o.r.d.l.e.s.s. you can move AND talk..

..the concept was lost on her..

And I think she's the one who taught me the trick about putting black tape on the flashing "12:00" on the VCR..

Yeah, that Sister of the Lace Curtain Irish Cowgirls..with no use for technology..

And now she's on Facebook.

And just finished 8 weeks of radiation for breast cancer..started the day after our brother's passing..

how's that for being thrown into the 21st century?

And yet she remains steadfast in her role as 'rock' of our family..and I have never been prouder of her..and I have never loved her more..

And now I can invite her to all the senseless apps and time-wasters on Facebook..

And she can find her Mafia name, her real age, how lucky she is on a day-to-day basis, raise animals in Farmville, join causes that are nothing more than a ploy to get your email address and accept 'friend requests from people she will never know or remember ever knowing.....

It sucks to have me as a little sister, huh?

heehee

I'm sure you keep her smiling like you do me. It is great to hear you tell of your love for her and her role as rock of the family. I hope she makes a full recovery.I have friends like that who are just not turned on by technology but they all have other interests, mainly art or craft.

I just joined Facebook a few weeks ago. I find it amusing enough to check it every day, but I dont' think I'll ever be a slave to it.

My daughter wants me to join Facebook so that I can help her to gather things for her farm. I understand none of this and have zero time for it. Why won't your sister blog? Now blogging's the thing! Funny post as always!

Sounds like some major change for her. I will be praying for her health. I never understood why I would go to houses and their VCR was flashing! Facebook, that is where I started when I first stepped out from just emails.

I always wanted a dollhouse. My dad was a carpenter and was asked by one of his wealthy customers to make a dollhouse for their daughter. I...
