'Twas the night before the night before Thanksmas..
OK, so some of you know that we here in Main Street have a Combo-Holiday called Thanks-mas..
Think of it as the Taco Bell 4th meal..
..the Biggie Sized Wendy's burger of holidays..
..the Super-sized-McHoliday..
The kids come in from Colorado..the other kids come in from across town, the grands are where we long for them to be..at Grammie and Papa's home.
This year, my sister and her family are not able to attend and while it won't be the same..we are working on some new traditions..
This year the girls and i will be spending the Thanksgiving morning delivering Thanksgiving dinners for the Salvation Army to those who are unable to go out or have the meal cooked at home.
I thought it would be a good experience for both of them and I know April will enjoy it as well.
We then are going out to eat..not so many left-overs and no one has kitchen duty.
{Mr. B is preparing a prime rib for Friday's meal..)
A movie ( Blind Side) is on the docket for Thursday night..then it's the Christmas part of Thanksmas' turn..
Black Friday shopping followed by breakfast out..then photo ops at Wheeler Farm or Gardner Village..then home for dinner and a rousing game of Kings in the Corner..we wrap and gifts that need to be wrapped, have hot cocoa, so this is our ..Christmas Eve..sort of..
Saturday is then 'Christmas morning' when we exchange gifts and wear our jammies and have a home-made breakfast..lots of picture taking..and laughter.
{this way, we can actually see the grands and the parents open the presents we would not be able to actually see once they go home..and they get to see our expressions when we open their gifts from them}
Sunday morning, they drive back to Colorado and when the real true Christmas comes, they can have their very own traditions, rituals and fun.
I think everyone can see how having 2 Christmases would be fun, right?
Here is a cookie one of my co-workers made..you should have seen them all lines up..a real turkey parade..
And here are the fabric colleges I made for my sisters - this is Larry and his son, Tim, a long time ago..real cowboys, the both of them..
OK, so enough about me {wink wink} What are YOU doing for the holiday??

Hi Coleen... i thought about your Thanksmas celebration earlier this week. What fun and what a great idea. I wish my extended family would go along with an idea like this, but not so far. You guys have a great time. (love the collages you made)
Oh my, your Thankmas calendar is sure packed... what fun!!! Have a blast as I think you always do. The collages, really cool!!! I think you are getting that idea down pat!
Cute, cute turkey cookies. Haven't figured out the beak, but thought that would be a cute idea for our Kids Klub at church kids to make. Take lots of pictures so you can share them with us!!!! Happy turkey/santa Weekend...
Wow, it is a busy time for you. Going out to eat sounds wonderful.
That sounds like a beautiful plan doing your Christmas now. Our kids are coming over for dinner. It will be a quite day. Tree will be put up later in the day. Enjoy!
OK, about the cookie - the beak is a candy corn - one of the new ones, I think caramel flavored? The belly is a peanut butter cup, a butter cookie for the feet and a fudge stripe for the feathers - the eyes are from a confectioner's store- but you could totally do this with a dollop of white frosting and with some sort of hard candy (mini-chocolate chip?) The "glue" that holds it all together is melted chocolate..
aww, can we come spend Thanksmas with you? lol. sounds like a perfect time together. I want to see that movie too! Have a great time with your family!
Sounds like a whole lot of fun at your house! And i absoutely love your collages you made. They are so good Colleen I only wish you would show more of your work! They are so gonna love these. Have a teriffic thanksgiving time. I can't stop thinking about Owen & Kathy. God bless you all.
Sounds like so much fun Colleen!!!! I'm sure whatever you do is fun...just because YOU'RE fun!! Your artwork is absolutely GORGEOUS sweet girl ~ what beautiful gifts of love ~ Have a wonderful holiday dear friend, hugs and love, Dawn
What a beautiful tradition for a beautiful family!
Wear yourselves out with joy and fun and togetherness!
Much love from Maine, where we are all thankful for YOU!
i love that you do what works for your family. since Christmas is in our hearts, who says it can't be celebrated early or twice, or every day if we want! you definately are building wonderful memories with grandchildren even if you are not with them physically on Christmas morning, good for you!!!
We will have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner at Mom's house, made special this year by the fact that despite her second bout of cancer, Mom is still around to spend it with us. We TOTALLY avoid Black Friday...I believe we will be going to the zoo in Providence...if it doesn't rain.
Happy Thanksmas to you!! LOVE your collages...I like the use of the ruler. Have fun!!
First of all, your collages are first rate - works of a true ARTISTE!
I am feeling the loss of so many Thanksgivings as I write this - tho I try to keep my spirits light there are always friend like you I can un-burden to (surely not good English usage!!) To whom I can unburden?? Anyway you know who you are!!
You guys sure know how to party. Thanxmassounds a good idea. Making the most of a family visit. Sounds like loads of fun and I think it is a super idea to go out for a meal to avoid kitchen duty. We will be doing that this Christmas as the girls will not be home this year.
Every bit of this post was fun to read. My family has gotten so small now. It's just the six of us in ND. So many people have gone.
Anyway, I hope your Friday was as wonderful as you had planned it to be. I spent today at home as Dan used my car, but I wouldn't have ventured out into Black Friday anyway.
What great gifts you're making. And I love your Thanksmas too. My Grandparents had something similar. I'll post about it tomorrow...
I think I'll go to Golden Corral (hehe) next year...you'll see why..
Sounds like you had a wonderful time this year and what fun memories...
Take care.
