Well, I was caught...

...in the toy isle at Wal-Mart...

It was totally embarrassing. One minute Mr. B was there, right behind me, so I thought it was safe to...

......sniff the doll heads.

I know, I know. It's not an easy thing to admit..but once a "new doll smell" addict well......

Suddenly, laughingly, embarrassed-ly, I said to him, "Oh I guess I'd better stop before someone thinks I'm wierd..."

But to my surprise, Mr. B was NOT the person I was talking to. Oh no.

It was a very nervous looking young father...who after I spoke, did not make eye contact...and I could imagine him saying to his young daughter..." Avert your eyes!"

He was about as amused as this woman...yeah..not my best moment.
Do you remember these trees? We had one! My Aunt Alice and her husband Joe manufactured them and I guess made lots of money. They sent us one, complete with a "color wheel" and we watched as the silver tree turned red, green blue and yellow...
Weird.
And I know weird.
Oh, and while most of the cashiers aren't quite as happy as this guy ( is he FLIRTING ??!!), we did have a young cashier at Wal-Mart who was in good spirits, cheerful and a little bit humorous ..huh...imagine...
And no, I didn't buy a doll just to get that "new doll smell"...either I was stuffed up or they don't smell that way anymore.
Sad, really...
I was totally disappointed.
Seriously.
I would have bought myself that doll if it had that smell...
It didn't. So I didn't.
Isn't it funny how a smell like that can transport one back to childhood? I must have gotten my fair share of new dolls at Christmas to associate that smell with having a great Christmas .

Anyway, by the time I found Mr. B, all I could say was "don't ever leave me standing in the isle again. OK? Please?"
....but I didn't tell him the rest of the story.
Don't want him to think I'm weird..
And, no, I don't think it's too late for that....
Well, maybe...a little..
Have a fun, great smelling week ahead and if you're in a store, in the toy isle, sniff a doll head or two to see f it can bring back memories..
( and, Mr. B. no, I don't think sniffing doll heads all those years was hazardous to my health. And, no I don't think that's why they stopped making them with that smell..)

Ooh, this is bad...I know exactly what you mean about the smell!! Okay, it's not bad, it's just WEIRD. I think the rubber they used for the heads when I was younger had a distinct smell...who knows what they use now?

Oh, of course, you can use the same little dog picture I have on my blog...I think it would be great if EVERYONE did!

Love ya.

I don't remember the smell of new dolls. But the smell of bacon cooking brings back memories of visiting my grandmother in Kansas.

I was in Walmart today and bought Jerzie a baby to give her when her brother or sister is born. When I saw Laurie she asked if I was in that aisle sniffing doll heads! I had no idea what she was talking about. Now I know! Not something I remember! Jean

Wanna see what I've been up to ??
