I *think* I may have told you before...

..the story of when I was really young in Arizona {like 6 or 7-ish} and it was hot. Hot hot hot hot hot.  It was, after all, Arizona..

And I wanted a pool.  Nothing fancy..just a pool..a little blow-up plastic pool to cool off in on those hot hot hot hot Arizona summer days...in ARIZONA..

{this is not me...or me..or me..Google Images..FYI}

And I was told "no"..

..insert sad face...sad sad sad sad face..:-(

So, being the resourceful little girl that I was..and knowing "guilt" is a very good motivator even then...I decided to make my own pool..

{..again..this is not me..or me...or me..Google, yes.}

I took a dresser drawer out, emptied it, took it outside and filled it with water...

And there I sat..just barely fitting..until Daddy came home from work and spotted me.

He laughed..told me to go inside and we had our usual 5:30 dinner..except I think we called it 'supper' ..anyway..

The next Friday {payday}, he brought home and set up my very own pool!

But, wait, not such a great ending..it was not a little blow-up plastic pool..but one that was square..with metal triangular seats {picture photo corners}in each of the four sides..

Metal.  Metal seats.  METAL. SEATS. IN .ARIZONA...

{photo used just to prove show you they did have metal seats..and no..none of these are me..are me? Is me? Army??..

So, why now am I telling you this again?....Other than to get your complete and total sympathy..??

While visiting one of my favorites sites, http://craftgawker.com/ I saw they also have
dwellinggawker and weddinggawker and foodgawker {!} and on the dwellinggawker (I love typing that...dwellinggawker..dwellinggawker..!!} I found an article on

"10 DIY Pools for Summer"

and they were showing pools made from "odd" stuff...like stock tanks...

{Oh...I **love** this one!}

..and ...are you ready for this??...dumpsters!

{um...not so much..}

 Moral of this post?  If you have a kid that wants a pool...get them the right kind...or you might just find them in the dumpster...or a drawer..or with branded triangles on her thighs..insert sad face :-(  sad sad sad face...

wade on!!

It has been so hot (over 100F for days and days!), that although TX is not as hot as AZ, I still want one of those little round blow up pools (no metal seats, thank you).

Not for any kid I know, for me....just me. And I'm a LOT older than 3 or 4!

LOL!

(What was your father thinking?? Metal seats??? OW!)

Oh dear heavens! Ouchie. You do have my sympathies. Are you still branded? What a sweet little story about the dresser drawer. Too cute. Glad that you made your daddy laugh. You made me laugh, too. And somehow I do feel a little cooler. Thank you!

I love how determined you were (are.) Yes, metal pools in AZ are not ideal. I used to swim in the canal with dead bodies and pesticides but we didn't care (or know) then. I'm sure these incidents have made us the fine citizens we are today. I love your humor. So sweet and quaint.

We should get together and do a theme. I planted some oldies but goodies in a post today, also. Aren't they fun to look at?? In Idaho there was a canal in front of the farm house and we (ME) always swam in that during the summer. I wonder if anybody in Phoenix does that now. Well - certainly not the BIG canals they have here. You'd die of typhoid. But those other dirty ditches that none of us cared about. :)

I'm sorry for your pain Colleen. Now I really have to remember to go to the bathroom before I come here to read your post. Too much laughing!

The cow pic is priceless and a perfect ending photo, the drawer pool is another one I can see only you coming up with, your folks probably knew early on that you were gonna be a keeper...what a hoot!!!

AND...my lil' brother and I had a pool just like that one, cause my Mom got tired of my brother putting holes in the tubular one with his swords on...he was truly a pirate, the lil' heathen, 'course he put holes in everything...I said he was a heathen...thanks for the memories!!!

Thank you very much, my thighs are on fire ;)
My neighbor friend and I used her dads canoe, worked like a charm. NOT IN ARIZONA!

HA! You were resourceful. My mom tells me when I was born I slept in a drawer at my Mammaw's house for a while. :/ It is 126 here today. I don't think I have a drawer big enough for all of us. :) Have a great day. Tammy

HA, we use to hitchhike down the canyon to "Warm Crick" in the summer..about 20 or so miles. And ya, the water was warm....

But out in the desert at my parents house, we got squirted or just ran through the sprinkler. I love that you did the drawer thing and that your dad laughed. I would have got yelled at!

Fun Fun memories Colleen:)

I love how creative you were with the drawer! Where do you get your pictures, they are so cute and vintage. Glad you got your pool.

Branded triangles? does that mean they are still there?

the drawer is a great idea. We just use the empty sand box.

Wanna see what I've been up to ??
