"The lady doth protest too mcuh..."

..as Shakespeare would say.

Yes, I'm taking about me.

No, I'm not Shakespeare.

But I think this may sound like I "doth protest too much" when I try to say what I mean but I think you think I mean something else....but I don't...really...

Here' the thing ...I don't feel old(er)..but I know I am...

How do I know? Well, everyone on the news that says their age, and is younger than me by a few years, looks....old(er) to me..

I mean, I know I'm not this old..................

And I'm not ready for the Bingo Hall................

But sometimes I look at where I've been, where I've come from, and I think.....

Oh, crap...I AM old (er)..

OK, today. I was just getting out of the shower and drying my oh-so-cute-and-I-love-it short hair when I put some product (that's the new version of "goop") in it to make it sort of stick-up..(Mr. B has started calling me "Spike") and I have these little longer wisps on the sides ..

She left them a tad bit longer because I wear glasses and if I plaster them down, they don't stick out like a clown's...anyway.. I got to thinking as I sort of twisted them down.....and curled them just so......

Hey! Spit curls! ....I'll bet many of you don't know or have never heard that term before.

How about a D.A. ...............no, not like on Law & Order..but referring to hair..

And cream rinse?? Oh yeah, now it's conditioner...dry shampoo?? Remember?? Prell?? Breck??

Curlers? First the skinny metal things with the holes, then the rubber ones that came in pink or brown..then pink sponge curlers...curlers...not "rollers"..CURLERS. Portable hair-dryers? With the hood and the weird stretchy-hose-thingy...

Bobby pins? French twist? Page boy? Flip? Ratting one's hair?? clippies? Barrettes?

...a rat-tail comb for Heaven's sake?????

Crap. Seriously. I am old(er)...here's where the "doth protest too much" comes in...I really am OK with my age. Seriously.
Every gray hair I've earned. I've seen a lot of things..a lot. I lived a lot of places..done a lot of things...loved only one man..and I am so blessed.....
..but every once in a while......I look in the mirror and say..............
Damn....

-me

Oh my gosh...so funny. I was always younger than everyone in select social gatherings. It happened overnight. I became older than everyone and it's still happening. Neighbors, living relataives, my hair guy, generally .. people EVERYWHERE! It's humiliating. Last hair cut I was telling my guy about the DA haircut. He said ..Oh I know...it was a Duck Tail not a DA. I said no....it was a Duck Ass. That's what we called it ....t.h.e.n. And all the other you mentioned...spit curls etc...I've been through and tried. And....the last thing....my hair is spiked also and I love it. So easy. Do you think we should meet for lunch or something because there's a lot in common here. :) We should write a book.

I don't remember the dry shampoo; but, I certainly remember everything else you mentioned! Brought tears to my eyes thinking about what we went through...home perms were the absolute worst!

You look fantastic, no matter what age. Actually, age is just mind over matter...if you don't mind, it doesn't matter!

You are such fun!

I remember the dry shampoo. I had to use it when I was in Junior High one week. I had a cyst removed from behind my ear and was not supposed to get it wet, hense no washing of the hair. That is when dry shampoo came in to save the day.

I know just what you mean! The real sad thing is I not only know what all those hair terms are , as a hairdresser for 40 years I've used or done most of them! As long as I don't look in the mirror I think I'm still fairly young! Jean

This is so funny caused I blogged about the same thing. Remember Dippity Doo and having to roll the pillow up under your head so the spikey curlers did not stick in your head when you slept. Kids to day don't know how easy they have it with blow dryers. We would never dream of washing out hair before we went to school....

I always wanted a dollhouse. My dad was a carpenter and was asked by one of his wealthy customers to make a dollhouse for their daughter. I...
