An icy-blast from the past..

{Originally written Dec. 5th, 2007}

Some things I’ve been thinking about…..

So, who guided Santa’s’ sleigh before Rudolph??

I mean, he says “Rudolph, with your nose so bright…yadda, yadda. yadda.....” and Rudolph was so young…..who did it before??

What do you say to someone who asks “What day is Christmas this year?!” and not sound like Miss-smarty-pants? (uh…..December 25th??)

Oh, and I’ve updated my dictionary:

Bumplies – anything with bumps and ridges

Rememberies – good memories – at least the one’s I do remember….

Chilly-wompers – Very, very cold

Way-sale – a bargain too good to pass up as in “Honey, I bought it because it was on WAY-SALE!!

Umba-rella – a tiny garden fairy {v/s umbrella..the thing that hold the rain off of you.until you try to get back in yiour car then all that "saved" rain is on the front seat..).

And of course Thanks-mas – that holiday we celebrate between Thanksgiving and Christmas…

So, have a good day and ponder those 'keeps-me-awake-nights' questions of your own.........inquiring minds want to know Hmmm...just maybe we should keep this kid of stuff to ourselves...huh?....

The day after...

which is today..but probably by the time you read this tomorrow, it will be yesterday..but right now, it's today so what I am blogging about is ...the day after.

Well, actually, no.  What I am blogging about was 'the day', which was yesterday..but I am doing it on the day after..but I am writing a little about what we did today, so ..I guess it could be called .."current events"

Hey..does anyone remember Current Events in school ?  I remember mine being on Mondays so I had to look in the Sunday paper to find something I could cut out then write about..and I'd do it at the last minute on Sunday night..

OK yes, Current Events would be a better post title..or would that be blog title?  So, blog would be the noun..and post would be the verb..as in I am posting the blog..or can post be the noun as well?? As in today's post??

Nevermind....huh..spell check just gave me the 'red underline' of  a misspelled word..seems 'nevermind' is actually 2 words.  Says you can hyphenate it..never-mind...sort of like when a woman hyphenates her last name.."Jane Smith-Doe"..well that makes more sense because apparently she was a Smith before she was a Doe, but never and mind don't seem to fit that scenario. Plus, I don't say "Never {pause} mind" like I would say 'Smith [totally pause} Doe"

OK, so I may be a bit scattered tonight  - which for most of you reading will be last night, but let's not go there..

We had our annual little neighbor Christmas-time {note the hyphen?} gathering and we always say, "small, no work, minimal expenditure...easy clean-up." and it tends to be a good deal of work, a good deal of expenditure, and a good deal of clean-up.  But it's always fun. And tiring.

Here is the Christmas-time {see? you totally paused..) house and a few shots of the gathering..

Lulu, the Warrior Princess, was on her very best party behavior..but was completely worn out by it all..

Then, after all the guests had left, we watched a little local news when a story about several of the "Angel Tree" kids had not been chosen and how the TV station was asking the public for more donations of coats, clothes in general , socks , etc. when my mother-in-Law, Evelyn, asked if she gave us the credit card, would we go and pick up some items to take down to the distribution center - so off we went today (Sunday..just in case you're confused) and bought 15 jackets and 100 pairs of socks, so at least they will have the warmth of a stranger's love this Christmas ..thanks Evelyn..

{wow, was that the longest run-on sentence, or what?? AND, it had another awesome hyphen!}

So, now it's good-night, or good-morning {hmmm..didn't really pause on these..maybe I should re-think the whole hyphen-thing?  Oh, I-just-can't-stop!}

But it worked well in re-think, doncha think?

What's in a name??..and etc..

..33 years age @ 3:33pm....my fourth child was born..and her name was the easiest...
Brandi
..but there is a story behind that..

She was due the last week of November - first week of December...ish.  It was the first week of October.  And she wanted ..out.

 {Brandi & Ella 2007}

I went into labor and they were concerned that her lungs would not be fully formed to carry her safely through life, so they wanted to stop the labor..and remember, this was 33 years ago.

{Brandi & Ella, Central park, 2009}
They tried to stop the contractions by relaxing the uterus...with an alcohol  IV..{??}  Because of complications {pulmonary embolism in me}, they needed to stop that and the contractions started again..so they gave me whiskey and soda crackers...I'm guessing so I wouldn't be drinking on an empty stomach?..Yeeeeah...and I don't drink..

They sent me home with instructions that if I felt the contractions start again to drink..I complained about the awful flavor so they asked if I liked cherry Coke..why yes , I do.

 Coke and ....yep..you guessed it...Cherry Brandy!. {and yes, it was in the era of cutsey-spelled names..) so Brandy became ...Brandi..Brandi Danielle..and she ended up being 3 weeks late..guess she liked sloshing around in all that booze....

Happy Birthday Sweet Brandi...your Mamma loves ya!!

{Brandi, hubby, Johnny and Ella}

Any good stories behind your children's names??

I am learning lessons...

I have been on Weight Watchers off and on for probably 20 years....mostly off.

So last week when I weighed in, I was completely deflated.  I had gained.  Not just a little.  3.8 pounds.  I couldn't even tell Mr. B or my sisters..all  I could tell them was that I gained..

And as in the past, I wanted nothing more to do with WW anymore.  It's my life, right?

{this is how far I've come..first my 25 lb. then on to my 50 lb.}

If I want to eat, if I don't want to keep track, if I want to have lots and lots of treats over the holiday..and so on and so on.

But I didn't.  I went back.  Tonight.  And I lost 7.6 pounds.

What was different this time?  I have learned.  We all have lapses.  We all go a little crazy.  We all try to stuff our feeling of sadness and helplessness down with food..

But I am learning..it doesn't help.  The sadness is still there - the helplessness is still there..and then a whole bunch of new negative emotions come out..guilt, disappointment and frustration.

We were given a rubber band tonight - and the leader said you can stretch the rubber band out, but it snaps back..

A good analogy..and that  rubber band will serve as a reminder that I can be stretched for a short time, but I will snap back ..

So watch out 2010...I'm gunna open a big 'ol can of whoop-ass on fat :-)

{this is a small candle with cute Christmas confetti the WW leader gave to all of us tonight..she said her 11 year old daughter and she made these so we can "shine our light" ..super, huh?}

So I figure right now I'm about a 6.75...well on my way to becoming a "10"....

-me

Some surprising things I learned today...

..I am the oldest person in my company...older than the big-wig..

How did I learn this?

Well, today we had a 401K meeting and they were talking about plans for when "we" retire...in 2055...wha??

And then it came to me..how lucky I was to have only three  5 more years.   Whoppie.

Another thing? It can really take like 3.25 hours to move one hour on the clock on slow days.  Yeah, that slow.

 {isn't this a cool clock?  Have I told you how much I love toast??}

Oh, and they don't put that icky-tasting glue on Christmas card envelopes anymore :-)  Now, that's something to be happy about, right?

..not that I was writing out my Christmas cards at work..while it was slow..nah....

And didja know you don't have to lick stamps at all anymore?! What more can we ask for?? OK, well maybe that they discover Paula Dean is right and "butter is our friend"

We're having a little gathering of neighbors this Saturday night and I'm making some goodies..that's so hard right now.

I really just want to be inside of that chocolate pan when it cools and lick my way out.

Not gunna happen..

Another thing...I add those 5 calorie Hawaiian Punch package thingies to my water...and I have learned that if I mix that half-and-half with Fresca, it makes this really sorta kinda fizzy cool drink..different..like Kool-Aid in champagne..

OK, maybe not so much.  Well, I don't know..I've never tried Kool-Aid in champagne but I have put Sweet-n-Low in wine...

So after an agonizing 6 weeks, my hair is just now starting to look normal.  And whaddya know, it's really time to get a trim...but I'm totally not gunna..nanner nanner oh hair-dresser-person!

What have you learned lately? See? We're never too old to learn new things, huh?

Bring your Senior Citizen to Work Day..or Another Day at the Office...

All day long I sit next to  kids customer service agents that type  word-process at lightening speed (or is that NASCAR speed?)

Anyway, I hear clicky clicky clcky on the keyboard like a poodle on Pergo…

And I type, backspace. delete, and type more – oh yeah- and the occasional spell-check-thingy…

So, because of my competitiveness desire to be a team-player…I stupidly try to key as fast as they do..so as not to look like an old lady that can't figure out the whole word processing thing  without looking at the keys  a slacker..

And it came out looking like this:

Helo Miss gelper,

Teas jte a DNA kad Hvrie 2and3 on the haplofout[ of M = tjoa os a seropis issure and fneeds t je arresdded a[[, Thnaks,
Sinveruluy
Colleem

Youbetcha…but I was FAST!  ..and not just ....half-fast!

So, what do you do to stay  employed on top of your game in  your cubicle-hell workplace?

I wonder...

..a lot.  A whole lot.  Wonder, wonder, wonder.

Mostly about things I really don't want to know...how phones work....why we can't breathe underwater {when I was a kid, I thought it was because you didn't try hard enough..} which makes me wonder how I survived summers..

I wonder how the birds know which direction they should all turn at the same time..and why we have so many of the same words in the English language that mean so many different things...

So this morning when I was taking my shower, and daydreaming contemplating the meaning of life..I wasn't surprised that I was wondering why I had only one eye open.

In the shower.  One eye.  Just one.

So I tried to open the other eye..and I found myself squinting until I just  had to close them both. Then I opened the other previously closed eye .  The weird thing was, it didn't matter which eye I opened..just as long as it was only one at a time.

Guess I'm just discovering my inner-Popeye.

Wow.  But I certainly don't want the arms...

PS - found this on Cute Overload {www.cuteoverload.com} ...it's sooo-funny...

Ugh. The dreaded Holiday Pop-in

"Yoohoo, anyone home? I brought you a fruitcake I made last year!"

"Hellooooo…? It’s Carl and Agnes! We have non-alcoholic eggnog, Brussels sprouts, and a hankering to sing carols! "

I just love cows...and ribbons.

Sounds & Love

We have a "deal" Randy & I. He loves to cook, I don't. I love to have a clean, pretty kitchen. He just needs it to be usef...
