Don't ever..ever...

..think that fuzzy, old faded photograph that no one remembers being taken is not going to be loved, cherished and mooned over by the people left behind one day..

'cos it will be.

Kathy found this photo, taken in about 1953-54 at our Aunt Alice's home.    That's Uncle Joe on the left..Aunt Alice's empty chair {was she taking the photo?} on the right ...and my Mother. ... looking young..looking pretty and thin...and with her hair in a headband..we girls don't ever remember Mother wearing her dark hair that way..

Her pretty printed dress..and Daddy, looking handsome and smug..

{Aunt Alice never did like Daddy too much..so it's probably pretty certain Uncle Joe might not have as well..and for them to be sharing a meal..well..it was either a victory for Daddy or a defeat for Aunt Alice!}

Bring on the smug-ness...

Larry & Kathy looking like the gangly- pre-teens they were ..Gerri looking as independent and determined as she still is..

..and me..peeking around from in between Mother & Daddy..all giggles and grins..

Kathy didn't remember having this photo..nor ever having seen it anywhere before..until she stumbled upon it in an old box...

So take care of those photos..those "less than perfect" photos we think no one would want..one day..someday..someone might just cherish seeing her Daddy and Mother all young and happy..

Seeing her big sisters little and sassy...

Seeing the inquisitive little girl that once she was...

And seeing her big brother..young and alive and suave..and dorky and goofy all at the same time...

Thanks, Kathy ;-D

My cousin in Idaho Falls is in her late 80's. I hope she never dies because she's my memory of all that happened in Rigby, Idaho. I would love to go through all of her pictures. The problem is that if I don't get there before she dies, that'll be it because the kids will take whatever is left in the house. Too bad everybody doesn't think that that stuff should be shared with ME. :))

It sounds like the relationship between my father and my Aunt Alice when he was alive. Every family has one!
Love the old pictures Colleen, so many memories, and even if we don't remember, the stories associated are timeless!

That really is cool and you can go way analytical on it...like two sets of eyes are on your mother...interesting! It must just be fun to have you all there in the same photo. You're so cute peeking out that way...

(It must be true in every family that so and so doesn't care for so and so. I'm hearing more about it all the time now that Nan's lips aren't as sealed as they once were. ;> )

That's awesome to see a pic and have you break down the people along with letting us in on your wonderful memories!

Sooooooooo glad that great old random photo, was found! And now, will be treasured.

But please, attach the names, to it, in some safe way. YOU know who everyone is. Next generation, and following ones, will NOT.

After cleaning out my family home years ago, I found so many lovely old photos, about whom I had no idea. -sighhhhh-

Aren't old photos great! When I see photos like that I always think I KNOW the people in them. Why is that? Guess it's because they're just so "homey" and cute.

I love looking at old photos, not only the pictures of the people but the way things were decorated, and the styles! This one reminds me of some family pictures we have around the table. Have a great week!

What a rare photo. My children have been going through our pictures and just love seeing all the people from our past. I pray that they will always love our vintage photos when we are gone. I really need to do a wall of them.
Great post!

Old family photos hold so much emotion when viewed, and so many memories. I returned from my visit with my Dad and had some (I know there are many more) 1900 - 60s photos in my suitcase. I know my Dad has forgotten about these and I was so concerned they may be lost in the future. I had to save them.

I've been to many estate auctions where family albums and photos have been sold and to me it is the saddest thing. Where is the family? Did they not want them? I can't imagine not keeping them.

Hugs,

Sue

I have a friend whose Mom will print every picture taken on her digital camera. When asked why, she says, "If that person dies tomorrow and it's the only picture we have of him, we'll be thankful."

Wanna see what I've been up to ??

I always wanted a dollhouse. My dad was a carpenter and was asked by one of his wealthy customers to make a dollhouse for their daughter. I...
