Sometimes, the best way to stay is to start over..

My son and daughter-in-law are 2 very smart young people.  Sometimes, wiser than their ages ...they are making smart decissions...

They have decided to downsize from their big house in a "up and coming" neighborhood  before the economy takes it's toll.  And have chosen to move to a smaller home in an older and more established neighborhood.

Mr. B and I drove out to see the perspective home today and spent a very enjoyable afternoon with them.

They have such great plans on restoring the curb appeal  to it's time period..it was built in 1911..

Neither of them are much for "old fashioned" but rather a clean, minimal almost "arts & crafts" period of look.

....and the inside has been "flipped" to be a beautiful charmer..high ceilings, dark wood polished floors, wood mouldings and lovely colors of paint.. and a new kitchen!

So, a fixed up porch for sitting on sunny days..a cute little fence..great window boxes and shutters, some pretty landscaping and their house will be a home..

This window is part of the garage they plan on replacing...and I 've already put "dibs" in it..

This is an old school house not far from the home..

We saw an area of the valley we really didn't know was there.

Sometimes, I think we get into such a "go-to-work-come-home-rest-go-back-and-do-it-again" mentality, and except for vacations, don't get to know our own areas all that well.

And we have some really great areas..just look:

That was our Saturday..how ways yours??

ps...I may have taken this vintage photography a bit far...

oh, that bottom photo looks like what a TTV should look like...mine turned out a bit warped. We couldnt go in the mansion, a small group (15) had rented the whole property for the day...as we were driving away...ALL the cars were newer Jags...impressive. Anyway, they kicked us out...we'll go back in the spring.

I'd kill to live in an older home like that. In the Avenues in Salt Lake there is a home on H street where my great uncle lived. The owner of that house now found me through the internet asking me for more history on the house. I gave her what I could and she asked me to stop in and see it next time I am in town. Can't wait.

Oh your *Kid-lins* are sooooo smart!!!
I could just hug both of them, to bits, for their Wisdom. And it sounds like it will be just perfect for them too.

Young people doing smart things, today! They need to be praised to the sky! :-)

Watch the antique-in' though Hon. It can be carried too far, ya' know. -grinnnnnnnnn-

Re: Your comment on my yesterday's post... ,-)

Yes, I guess I am sentimental and loving and the like. But! Believe me! When I RANT, I mean it! And when I'm MAD, I mean it!!! -giggles-

But you can call me a 'big softie,' if you want to. 'Cause you are the same! :-))))))))))))

I wish my kid was that smart. (Alas, she didn't do well on the real estate front in Vegas.) I love older houses and buildings. Such character...You look so cute in that last picture.

Good morning, sweet Colleen!

GOOD for your son & D-I-L ~ such a smart decision! Their house looks like the one that was next door to my grandparent's. It is a charmer!

Thanks for leaving a comment over at my blog about clothes & simplicity! I love classic clothes dressed up with feminine accessories, so we are definitely singing the same tune. :)

Have yourself a happy one,
Zuzu

It sounds like a smart idea. The house is charming and sounds like it has been fixed up to look amazing inside. I wish them happiness in every room.

Old houses are the best! Lots of work, but soooo much character!

Your son and his wife are brilliant! Well done to them! There is something to be said for the history of a home that a new home can never capture. And to downsize now - I so admire them. Too much, too big, too fast... is this really the world we want to give our kids? Well done to you for raising such a smart son!
Blessings!
Ann
PS Their now house is a gem!
